I think it's fine to have it separate state for each doc, my confusion was I turned on the grid, but didn't save the doc. If all I have to do is save the doc with the grid on, i'm sorted. :)

Ignore this, I had adjusted the wrong opacity in the settings, adjusted the guide opacity not the grid. This is fine no bug.

Derp, I can see the grid in this screenshot, but not in my display. So I think it might be that display scaling in X11. I will try without and report back.
