we used to claim "to always have the latest" and I changed it to modern. I'm happy to suggest instead that arXiv "should maintain a compliant version", if that sounds more reasonable.

I do think we (used to?) offer type3 fonts in our ps output. I'd have to check the formats selector again to be sure

This is missing in GenPDF as far as I know. I don't know how autotex is doing this.

Can we get rid of that? I really think this is all very very outdated. We should just provide PS files with the type1 fonts included. Anything else is simply unreasonable.

This looks good. I'm not sure some of these are still "FAQ" worthy, but we can have a different discussion around that in the future.
